It's funny but sometimes when I read what you have written it triggers a memory or two of mine that I had forgotten or just not thought important enough to write about. One of my favorite albums was Peter and the Wolf and I played it til the grooves were nearly gone.

Hope you are healing dear friend. I will be calling you next week. My own crazy knee has been giving me trouble so I have been stuck at home.Lynnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06266544095118921657noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2105880328040029481.post-61260491582484938452009-10-12T21:59:08.051-07:002009-10-12T21:59:08.051-07:00Kay, All to often this type of thing happens to d...Kay, All to often this type of thing happens to deer, and animal control seems to know only one way to do their job....at least that has been my experience. My husband and I hit a deer on our wedding night as we were driving from the Santa Cruz area to Monterey and I have never forgotten the trauma that was involved. The doe simply got up and ran off and we think she probably died later on. Your writing captures the sadness of such an incident. I don't think we ever outgrow that 7th grade feeling. Whenever my daughters are nervous about new social situations, I tell them that this is something that never really goes away. Even grown-ups feel conspicuous and self-conscious. No one likes to stand alone outside a group, worried about how she looks or what she'll say. I do remember feeling very self conscious myself at that age, and you brought back some pretty powerful memories to this old lady. Also, I can sure identify with the "white wires going every way." I also did some thinking about what I would take with me if a fire threatened to take all that I cherish.

My heart goes out to all those who have lost so much, and I will be donating some clothing and food for those who are left with nothing. So often in life we think bad things happen only to "the other guy." Something like this leaves us vulnerable and in shock; so many irreplaceable things are now gone forever.
